Over the last couple months I’ve been taking a Berklee music marketing course to get certified as a Topspin Marketer. As of now, to use the Topspin platform you either have to hire a Topspin Certified Marketer or become one. I’m somewhat of a control freak so I decided to become one.
In a nutshell, Topspin is a music marketing platform that integrates email software, digital delivery, ecommerce, and extensive statistics tracking all in a single dashboard. If you combined stuff like Reverbnation, Mailchimp, E-junkie, and Artistdata you might get something similar to Topspin. Now imagine if you could combine the data from all of these tools. You could get information like which people on your mailing list purchased what, how they got on your mailing list (a gig, a email for media widget, etc) and the list goes on.
I expected that I’d already know quite a bit of what was being taught but I’ve been pleasantly surprised with some hidden gems of music marketing wisdom. I probably won’t change much of what I’m already doing for my artists but this course has certainly given me a confidence boost and provided a clearer understanding of online music marketing best practices.
